Philly Bluegrass COVID-19 Update

The global COVID-19 pandemic is severely impacting the live music industry. While it can negatively impact the performing arts, social distancing is a critical way to slow the spread of the virus and prevent our health system from being overwhelmed.

This disruption is creating a hardship for musicians, venues, promoters, and many others who rely on live music performances for income. If you have the means, please consider ways that you might provide financial support to those in need. You can find a list of local Philly area bluegrass bands here. Some ways that you can support local working musicians include:

  • reaching out directly and donating
  • purchasing their music
  • taking online lessons
  • commissioning a song
  • paying to attend an online concert*

* We will list online performances on the Philly Bluegrass Calendar as we become aware of them.

The International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) has also created a COVID-19 resource page for bluegrass fans and musicians.

Several concert cancellations and postponements have occurred. We will do our best to update the Philly Bluegrass Calendar by indicating which shows and jams have been cancelled or postponed. If you have information not reflected in the calendar, please email us.

Note that many of the venues that present bluegrass music in the Philadelphia area sell gift certificates. You might consider supporting these venues by buying a gift certificate for future use when they re-open.

Impacted events to-date include:

  • Heritage Bluegrass Brunch — Cancelled for 3/22. Stay tuned for re-opening info.
  • Third Wednesday Bluegrass Jam at Chris’ Jazz Cafe — Cancelled for 3/18.
  • Last Monday Bluegrass Jam at The Abbaye — March jam (3/30) cancelled. Will resume on 4/27, conditions permitting.
  • Doylestown Jam — No jam until further notice due to club closure.
  • Holmesburg Jam — Suspended indefinitely until emergency subsides.

Thank you for being part of the community, and for your continued support of bluegrass music during this challenging time.
